4 Tips to Save Water at Home

This article will cover four tips to save water in your daily life. Although these all require very little effort, they make a huge difference in terms of the water that we save. Just think, if everyone made these little changes (below), litres of water would be saved on a daily basis – this is a responsible choice to make considering the danger that our planet is facing, considering that water is slowly become more and more scarce.

1) Turn Off the Tap
Whether you are brushing your teeth or washing your hands, taps can use up litres of water much faster than we think. Turning off the tap, in the three minutes it takes you to brush your teeth, can save gallons of water and lead to a more sustainable lifestyle.

2) Fix Your Leaks
Leakages in your house are one of the biggest water wasters worldwide. Even just one drip every second can lead up to a litre wasted every few minutes! Imagine how much water you are wasting if you don't fix a leak for a few months. Not only would you be saving money on your water bill by fixing your leaks, but you'll be saving the planet too!

3) Showers > Baths
Baths use up several gallons of water every single time you take one! Instead of taking a bath, take a shower which uses up a lot less water. Also try and cut your shower time, you don't need to spend hours and hours under the shower head. At the same time, whilst your applying soap, it's not necessary for the shower to be on as it'll just waste more water.

4) Decrease Electricity Usage
No, our phones don't use water to an extent where we need to stop using our phones but what we need to do is cut down electricity usage from power sockets. Power plants need thousands of gallons to cool down once used, the conservation of energy allows for the conservation of water!

Fun Fact: Some people don't even flush their toilets so they can save water!
Although the toilet is one of the most water-intensive machines in the household, there is no need to 'let it mellow' as this is very unhygienic. However, if it's possible to retain from flushing, eg. pouring something in the bind rather than pouring it down the toilet, this will save a lot of water!

If you follow these tips, you would be able to save gallons of water daily with absolute minimal effort! So, next time you're hesitating between a shower or a bath: remember that we all need to play our part in conserving water and do the right thing by choosing a short and timely shower.
