Our Project Plan

TGELF Proposal and Project Plan:

The UNSDG that we would like to focus on is ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities.”

We plan on designing a water catchment system that collects rainwater and uses it for various purposes,
such as for drainage systems (flushing toilets), (hydroponic) agriculture, and filtration for consumption,
washing and food preparation.

We have chosen to focus on water because it is a vital element in life for all, as it is used for washing,
cooking, agriculture, and most importantly, drinking. Finding more ways to provide this resource is very
beneficial to the general public and ensures that the supply doesn’t run out.

The method through which we want to achieve this goal is by creating a social campaign to raise
awareness, specific to water wastage, and designing a prototype which would assign specific quantities
of water to a designated function (filtration/hose reel/drainage system).

We were inspired by how UWC (UWCSEA Dover School) reuses rainwater for the drainage system in
school, and wanted to incentivise other schools and apartment buildings in Singapore to do the same.
The campaign will serve to have an impact locally, however, if given the opportunity, it could be expanded.

We also think that our subject will be beneficial to Singapore as there is a lot of rain during the monsoon
season, which is not reused and goes to waste. In such a hot environment, our citizens must stay
hydrated and clean, and the amount of water we import from overseas would be greatly reduced if we
could harness the resources around us.
