1.0 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL
SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES

1.2 MAIN FOCUS
THE CONSERVATION OF WATER IN SINGAPORE

1.3 OUR OBJECTIVES
  • CREATE A MORE SUSTAINABLY DRIVEN SINGAPORE, IN REGARDS TO WATER USAGE, THROUGH
  • RAINWATER RECYCLING AND DAILY REDUCTIONS OF WATER WASTAGE BY THE END OF 2020.
  • INFLUENCE CONSUMERS OF WATER TO REDUCE THEIR DAILY CONSUMPTION AND WASTAGE OF
  • WATER THROUGH CAMPAIGNING THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER CONSERVATION BOTH DIGITALLY
  • AND IN NON-DIGITAL FORM.

2.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Water is a vital element in life for all, as it is used for washing, cooking, agriculture, and most importantly, keeping hydrated.
Finding more ways to provide this resource is very beneficial to the general public and ensures that the supply does not run out.
OECD defines water conservation as the preservation, control and development of water resources, both surface and
groundwater, and the prevention of pollution. Singapore works towards these, for example by building dams for hydroelectricity and developing NeWater. NeWater which is
a PUB entity working towards recycling used water into reclaimed water; this pushes for sustainability as, by 2060, NeWater is
expected to meet up to 55% of Singapore’s future water demand. This prevents unnecessary spending for imported water and
has been setting the precedent for water recycling since the 1970s..

HOW DO WE SUCCESSFULLY RECYCLE, STORE AND UTILISE WATER,
SPECIFIC TO NATURAL SUPPLIES?

2.2 METHODS OF SPREADING AWARENESS
WE WILL SHOWCASE THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER CONSERVATION THROUGH THE USAGE OF SOCIAL
MEDIA, A SHORT FILM AND A PROTOTYPE.

2.3 STRATEGY TO ACHIEVE OUR OBJECTIVE
  • Social Campaign
  • Social Media - INSTAGRAM
  • Daily Posts
  • Infographics
  • Blog - BLOGSPOT
  • Project Progress/Process
  • Short Film
  • Prototype

2.4 STRATEGY EXPLANATION
Our group aims to achieve our goals through the use of the methods stated above. A social campaign will allow us to raise
awareness specific to water conservation or wastage in daily life. The same can be done with daily posts on social media,
infographics, a blog, short film and product. For our blog, our goal is to reach a traffic goal of 10’000 visits a month by 2019. Our project process will demonstrate the
progression of our prototypes, short films and reports. On social media, we will post weekly hacks to improve our conservation of water and give viewers inspiration to do so. For our film, our goal is to reach an approximate 500 views on social media platforms such as Instagram and 1,000 views on
larger platforms such as YouTube.

3.0 PROTOTYPE

3.1 SKETCHING AND DESIGNING PROCESS
It functions by collecting rainwater throughout the distinctive shape and filtering this through a plumbing system to filter the
possibly harmful rainwater into clean drinking water. Our prototype aims to create a constructive solution to the issue - subsidised by Tharman Shanmugaratnam (groundbreaking
technology) or government. The function of our prototype is to collect rainwater and filter it into water that is useful within a household, but also drinkable.
It will assign specific quantities of water to a designated function through the use of programming.

4.0 A SHORT FILM
Our target audience is anyone who is willing to create a difference by leading a more sustainable lifestyle. We want a variety of
people to realise the importance of water conservation. Water is a finite source, that may soon run out. It plays a vital role in
our daily life - necessary for survival - as well as those of animals and plants. We would also like to target citizens of the future - those who are able to create change by 2060, to allow them to take this leap
forward and create a drastic change. We want people who are willing to take action and work towards improving the
environment around us. We would also like to target investors such as pub - who aim to make Singapore more sustainable through rainwater
consumption by 2060. As well as allow the government to become more aware of these issues, as they wish to sponsor
groundbreaking design ideas - working with MOF. As well as target the government, targeting sponsors like TECHSPO Singapore are also one of our main goals.

5.0 IMPORTANCE OF EACH SEGMENT

Each individual segment is effective in reaching our SDG (Sustainable Development Goal). Our social campaign, reaches all types of people and encourages them to adopt more sustainable means of doing daily
activities, inspires people by showing innovation regarding water conservation, is cost-free and efficient and informs people
about Singapore’s technological advancements and green-means of water conservation. Our advocacy film, evokes emotions and will persuade people to waste less water, it will inform citizens of the green
alternatives - similar to social campaign - and in other words is a condensed information package for viewers. Our designed prototype, will be a substitute for water expenses, will allow different methods of collecting water, creating
water from a more sustainable resource - rainwater - and optimises the use and lastly our prototype can be built into a
plumbing system, as a second source of water consumption.
